Remember a few posts back when I started talking about issues with redness on my skin? I wondered if it was flaring up due to stress and de-hydration, or if I might have Rosacea; but then I started to notice itchiness too, which led me to believe it was irritation to a product.
As I have a beauty blog, you may have guessed that I have a lot of beauty junk and try new moisturisers, serums, primers, foundations and other face things on a regular basis, so narrowing down what was causing my skin to react was very difficult. But now I don't think that my skin has been irritated by one naughty product. Through trial and error, I now reckon (I use the word "reckon" as I'm obviously not a dermotologist, and may turn out to be wrong later) that the problem might be perfume.
I would have never guessed perfume to be the culprit, as a lot of the primers and foundations I use don't have a scent but still contain perfume. It wasn't until I became more observant and started to keep tally of what products caused redness and itchiness on my face, and then looked at the ingredients. Even a toner that said it was "Dermatologically Tested" on the bottle still had perfume in it. This explains why some foundations actually made my redness look more prominent.
So, what now? Well, for the next few weeks I'm going to avoid everything in my stash counting perfume: one foundation, one BB Cream, two primers, one toner, two moisturisers, my Bio-oil, the baby shampoo I use to clean my makeup brushes, and pretty much all my cleansing balms. If in a few weeks I see an improvement in redness and irritation, I'll know what the problem is.
In the meantime, I'm going to keep things very simple skincare wise. As my cleansing balms all are scented, I'll be using coconut oil to take my makeup off in the evenings. To cleanse and tone in the morning I'll be using Boots Baby Lotion and Garnier Micellar Water. To moisturise, I have the E45 lotion.
If you have sensitive skin and found something that helped the problem, let me know.
