Joeli's Shoot

Last week I got to hang out with Joeli from Joeli Creates. She wanted some headshots and pictures of her working to use on her website, and I was more than happy to assist. We went to Ziferblat in the Northern Quarter for the productivity shots, which I'd highly recommend as a venue for any creative projects. Every time I go there I'm cracking out a camera of some sort and no one bats an eyelid. It's such a relaxed environment.

I wanted to make sure I got a mix of shots for Joeli.

As you can see, some of them are quite close and look more like casual headshots. These are ideal for profiles on social media if she wanted something a little more relaxed.

I also wanted to get a few with Joeli's equipment around her while she was working, to really show her in her element. Some (like the image on the left) are deliberately framed with a lot of negative space, meaning that she could add some text if she wanted to add a call to action or use them on her website.

Then we got a mix of posed headshots. We took a few in Ziferblat, which turned out great, but we wanted some outdoors as well. We wandered around the Northern Quarter, looking for a nice brick backdrop with decent lighting and very few cars driving by.

I love taking photographs of people.

I love discussing inspiration and ideas, and planning what they want from the shoot. I love talking to them about their craft while taking their picture (as I usually photograph bloggers, vloggers, models or actors). I love showing them the images and their face lighting up when they see one they like. I'm very lucky that so many trust me with that responsibility.
