It’s no secret that I have a lot of clients with their own blogs or YouTube channels, and in most cases it’s the first time they’ve worked with a professional photographer. It can a little daunting to have a stranger pointing a DSLR at you when you’re used to your mum or significant other taking your photos. What are you supposed to wear? How do you pose? I appreciate that it might be overwhelming, so I thought I’d write this post or anyone who’s thinking of investing in a photoshoot soon… and no, it doesn’t have to be with me! (But, you know, I’m pretty good. Just saying.)

I never thought I'd be writing a post like this, because from the age of 22 my dream was to be a "YouTuber". But I just don't love YouTube anymore. Back in 2012, I had just started a Masters Degree, and was overwhelmed with stress and anxiety. YouTube was (or at least felt like) a safe place for me to escape.

I think we all like to beat ourselves up in January and think about everything we're doing wrong with our lives. Every year I tell myself that things will be different, that I will finally loose weight (that's a popular one) and have one of those social life things that I've heard other people talking about, they sure sound like fun. When I announced I was going to start writing more about photography, my blogging sister Charline asked me for advice on how to take selfies (I prefer to call them "self portraits" but I can't help feel a bit pretentious when I do). She said that she struggled to get her makeup visible on camera, which was actually a problem I had too when I first started. So I thought I'd write about what I do when I'm taking pictures of myself for people who feel about taking selfies the way I feel about learning SEO - scared, confused, and overwhelmed.
